Service Improvement + Rationalization of management New Subway Culture Creation

The Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation (SMRT) is committed to creating a new subway culture with sound management and improved service.

Established with the purpose to improve public welfare, SMRT continually strives to develop the metropolitan transportation system by providing a safe and fast mode of public transportation

through the efficient management of Seoul metropolitan subway lines 5, 6, 7, and 8. Therefore, we will strive to create a new subway culture to provide higher quality of service through revolutionary business innovation.

The SMRT was organized in order to guarantee efficient management of subway lines 5, 6, 7 and 8. Construction of Seoul’s second set of subway lines began with Line 5 in June 1990 but as completion came near, there was much discussion as to who will operate the line.

Based on the results of surveys, public meetings and service assessment from the research center of the Seoul National

University, the decision was made to establish a new entity separated from the existing Seoul Metropolitan Subway Corporation ( now Seoul Metro), which began operation in November 1993. Therefore in March 1994, SMRT was established. It will open a whole new era of subway system by serving the community better through efficient operation of the new subway system lines 5, 6, 7 and 8.
